Vatican decides Creation and Intelligent Design are not Scientific or Theological Issues
You may be surprised, or at least I was, that the Vatican is hosting a conference to celebrate the birth and works of Charles Darwin.
Associated Press (02.10.09, 07:54 AM EST) in part carried this -
"The Vatican says an upcoming conference on evolution will include discussion of intelligent design, but only as a cultural phenomenon - not as a scientific or theological issue.
"Organizers of the March 3-7 conference, which marks the 150th anniversary of Charles Darwin's "The Origin of Species," had originally excluded proponents of creationism and intelligent design from the conference. ..." - AP
The Dallas Morning News (Feb 13) carried this from its editorial staff-
"Catholic News Service reports that a Vatican-sponsored conference on biology and evolution next month will include some discussion of so-called intelligent design -- but not as science (which it isn't).
"Instead, the conference will examine how the notion of intelligent design "appeared and developed as a cultural ideology."
"The story notes that many Christians mistakenly hold Darwin's theory to be incompatible with a belief that God created the universe. The Vatican says no such conflict exists between faith and science." - TDMN comment
In recent years I had been following the decisions by the Roman bishops in Wales, England and Scotland to use little known provisions of the Vatican II Council held last century, to do away with any requirement to believe in the books of Genesis or Revelations - among others. And apparently now you don't have to believe in Adam and Eve any more it seems to be a good Catholic either!
So I suppose if you do away with our first ancestors as God made them, and the book of Genesis, and are run by a whole lot of academically trained theologians who want to look good in the eyes of their worldly counterparts - then in the modern sinning world, jettisoning Genesis can only leave you with Darwin.
The discussion which this is causing internationally has fallen fowl of a lot of the unproven assertions that the Evolutionary Theorists have bandied about for decadeswith places like the BBC having created false documentaries making it all look like fact.
One man calling himself "JohnFranc" who was confused by the false ideas of billions of years of earth history wrote in the TDMN Religion Blog ...
"In my somewhat limited experience, thoughtful people who have trouble with the theory of evolution (i.e. - those who don't reject it immediately because it conflicts with their religious doctrine) frequently struggle to comprehend the enormous time scales on which evolution works.
"The following examples are approximations in years:
"100 - maximum lifespan for an individual human 10,000 - length of civilization 200,000 - years ago that humans evolved into our current form 2,500,000 - appearance of the Hominina (direct human ancestors) 200,000,000 - mammals 500,000,000 - sea animals 1,000,000,000 - multicellular life 3,800,000,000 - first appearance of life 4,600,000,000 - formation of the Earth 13,800,000,000 - the Big Bang
"I don't know about you, but I struggle to wrap my not-quite-half-hundred year old brain around numbers this big. But they show why we shouldn't reasonably expect to see any noticeable evolutionary changes in higher animals in recorded history, much less in our brief lifetimes." - JohnFranc
For any one else troubled or confused by the assertions of the Evolutionary Theorists I put these quick condensed notes together ...
The proposed long times are theoretical, as also are the 'methods' used to date rocks, planets, galaxies, and the universe. There are **Major** problems with all isotopic and all other dating techniques.
We simply have no accurate measure-or any measure at all of such things. Historically, evolutionary theorists did not find such long times already existent, and proven, as a frame for its theorised processes to work in, but instead postulated that they must exist-as no clear fossil evidence for evolution could be found.
Ever since Darwin, and the subsequent million families/species that have been described- a million(!) there is still no actual tangible evidence of evolution in the fossil record.
Evolutionary Theorists also require such long time spans to exist for all kinds of their mutation models. Yet nothing can even start to be shown in the laboratory on how to bring the most simplistic single celled organism together.
In fact, all postulations as to the early earth environment, worked with by the Theorists, continue to show a hostile environment with the wrong kinds of chemicals to form life at all. And even if single celled organisms could somehow be un-intelligently derived from inert chemicals, there is then the impossible task of en-livening it, and then simultaneously giving it a mechanism of faithfully reproducing itself and ALL from day one.
Plus on top of that, then providing the evolutionary mechanism for it to diversely evolve into grass, eagles, jellyfish, camels, butterflies, fish and jungle orchids. Incredibly Evolutionary Theory in all of its forms is just another belief system with no clear evidence.
Creation by the Lord Jesus Christ is not a scientific problem, but represents more of a moral dilemma for Theorists; who want to continue with no reference to the super natural origins of all things.
That the act of creation was super-natural is hidden to all "science" that treats only the natural, and by definition can not describe, measure or catalogue the "super" natural. All "science" that by its own premises limits itself to what happened after the Beginning - to the natural realm, and can not describe, apprehend or advise on the super natural pre-beginnings or moment of Creation.
Science has been limited by definition in its own code of operation to the description of the **natural** order, and then is therefore not very useful in apprehending the super- natural creation of that natural order. Science can not measure or describe what was there before the laws and processes by which it operates existed.
If faith is required to believe that evolution works with out actual clear evidence - then rather use that faith towards God Who created all things, and the certainties of His Son the Lord Jesus Christ - because He says that there is a new Creation coming when He destroys the present one, by fire, and only those found in Him will be preserved!
Your's in Christ's love and service,
Paul
